Die Suche nach der verlorenen Heimat und Geschichte in der Periodika der deutschen und litauischen Memelländer außerhalb des Landes nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg
LT1849 metų liepos 3 dieną Klaipėdoje, tuometiniame Memelyje, pasirodė pirmasis laikraščio „Memeler Dampfboot (Klaipėdos garlaivis)“ numeris. Laikraštis vokiečių kalba atspindėjo Prūsijoje po 1848 metų revoliucijos išpopuliarėjusias liberalias idėjas ir buvo labai populiarus. Išnagrinėjus pokariniame „Memeler Dampfboot“ atspindėtas turinio ideologines nuostatas, galima pažymėti, kad pozicija keitėsi po pirmojo redaktoriaus Heinricho Alberto Kurachat mirties1948 metais. Ilgametis laikraščio redaktorius H. Kurschatis laikėsi konservatyvios, akivaizdžiai priešiškos Lietuvai ir lietuviškosios Klaipėdos krašto praeities epizodams pozicijos. 1948 metais redaktoriumi tapęs Bernhardas Maskallis (iki 2000 metų) pradėjo ieškoti nuosaikesnių turinio formų, ryšių su Lietuva ir dabartiniais Klaipėdos krašto gyventojais. Ne visi Klaipėdos krašto išeivių, memelenderių laikraštyje „Memeler Dampfboot“ spausdinti tekstai yra vienodos istorinės vertės. Akivaizdžiai ideologiškai angažuotos provokiškos tendencijos atsispindi tekstuose, kurie pristato išeivių požiūrį į svarbiausius Klaipėdos miesto ir krašto istorijos įvykius ir faktus. Vokiškos kultūrinės tradicijos vyravimas išsiskiria kraštotyrinio pobūdžio žinutėse apie vietoves, bažnytinį gyvenimą, kultūros, mokslo veikėjus. ENThe first issue of “Memeler Dampfboot” [Klaipėda Steamboat] was released on 3 July 1849 in Klaipėda (former Memel). The newspaper published in the German language reflected the liberal ideas that became popular in Prussia after the 1848 revolution and was very popular. The analysis of the ideological attitudes reflected in the post-war issues of “Memeler Dampfboot” shows that the position changed after the death of the first editor, Heinrich Albert Kurachat, in 1948. The long-time editor upheld a conservative position evidently adverse to Lithuania and all Lithuanian episodes in the history of the Klaipėda region. Bernhard Maskallis, who was the editor from 1948 until 2000, adopted a more moderate approach, including taking up contacts with Lithuania and the contemporary inhabitants of the Klaipėda region. Not all texts published in the newspaper “Memeler Dampfboot” of the Klaipėda region’s native people (Memellanders) have the same historical value. The texts that present the Memellanders’ attitude towards the most important historical events and facts of the Klaipėda city and region reflect the evidently ideologically engaged provocative tendencies. The predominance of the German cultural tradition is evident in the reports on regional studies about the localities, church life, cultural and scientific figures. Taking the present-day historiographical approach to the attitudes reflected in the newspaper towards the history of the region, we may be critical; however, there is no doubt that throughout all years since 1950 the publication consistently formed the conception of the lost German motherland and history among the Memellanders.
