ENThe paper deals with the manifestation of Christian myth and individual's relationship with the nature in the collection of short stories "Nebaigtas Žmogus" (2003) by Kazys Saja. An attempt is made to reveal how symbols and meanings actual in the past are being reconstructed in Saja's texts, at the same time opening possibilities for their different interpretation in the present and future. The paper also focuses on the importance of nature in the text and author's willingness to harmonize human existence through the nature. Saja's short stories are analyzed from several different perspectives: demythologization of myth, opposition/interface between the traditions and the modernity and the parallel between the nature and humans. The paper is novel for the application of mythopoetic and socio-critical methods of research for the analysis of Saja's texts. The majority of Saja's short stories deal with the search for a national identity and the importance of perception of ethnical self-identity. The chronological period of time when the collection of short stories was written and the contemporary political situation of Lithuania might have influenced author's decision to prioritize the idea of realization of human existence. Saja sees tradition, identity perception and unity with the nature as a foundation of human existence. The analysis of the texts reveals both, the manifestation of the traditional Christian myths (creation of man, perception of heaven, the Ten Commandments, the history of Cain and Abel) and new approach towards these myths which aims at understanding the human existence, its development and perfection. A special attention is given to the relationship with the native surroundings, longing for the past, sacrality of the nature and contraposition of the nature and socialization. Relationship with the past allows revealing the topic of human creation, continuous perfection and metamorphoses. The author concentrates on the process of individual's self-perception. Especially pervasive is the topic of unfinished and continuous development, also visible in the structure of the short stories. The stories seem to be unfinished: the reader is not satisfied with clear and unambiguous answers. The untold and silent things do not mark author's withdrawal and standoff. On the contrary, they leave space for individual interpretation and invite the reader into the dialogue with the text and oneself. In the annotation of the collection of the short stories, Saja observes that a human is born as if prematurely, yet he is "programmed" in such a way that could complete himself in the future. As a background for individual perfection, the author sees traditional values - Christian myths and individual's relation with the nature. [From the publication]
