Shift in a monologue-dialogue : tradition as a warrant for the successful development of a culture of tolerance

Šios vertybės gali pilnai atsiskleisti visuomeniniame gyvenime tik pasikeitus mąstymo būdui. Daugumą šių vertybių sieja tolerancijos kultūra, todėl darbe analizuojama, kas lemia toleranciją. Straipsnyje taip pat gvildenamos kliūtys, trukdančios sėkmingai plėtoti tolerancijos kultūrą. Aptariamas dialogo ir monologo tradicijų santykis, dialogo ir tolerancijos sąryšis. Lietuvoje vis dar dominuoja monologinė kultūra. Straipsnyje nurodomi būdai, galintys padėti įveikti monologinę tradiciją, įsivyravusią Lietuvos intelektualinėje kultūroje sovietinės okupacijos metais. Sakoma, kad svarbus vaidmuo turi atitekti intelektualams, kurie vis dar ieško naujų raiškos ir dialogo būdų šiuolaikinėje Lietuvos visuomenėje. Monologą plėtojančio pranašo vaidmenį turi keisti dialogą su kitais intelektualais vedančios asmenybės, siekiančios paveikti tolesnę visuomenės raidą. Du priešingi intelektualų požiūriai į tautą, pilietinę visuomenę, politiką ar visuomeninę tikrovę turi grįsti dialogo tradiciją. Tai didelė kūrybinė galia, svarbi puoselėjant tolerancijos kultūrą, kuri skatina pasitikėjimą, praplečia supratimo akiratį ir kuria sveiką bei dinamišką demokratinę visuomenę. ENThe article discusses the values which were established in Lithuania after it joined the European Union, and which promote pluralism, solidarity, equality and respect for human rights. This virtues can fully be achieved in public life only if the way of thinking changes. The majority of these values constitute the culture of tolerance, therefore, the work analyses factors determining tolerance. The article also analyses obstacles impeding successful development of the culture of tolerance. The relation between the traditions of dialogue and monologue and dialogue and tolerance is discussed. The culture of monologue is still dominating in Lithuania. The article presents the methods, which could help to overcome the tradition of monologue prevailing in the intellectual culture in Lithuania during the period of Soviet occupation. It is supposed that the intelligentsia has a significant role in the process. It is still in search of new ways of expression and dialogue in the modern Lithuanian society. The role of a prophet reading a monologue should be replaced with a personality having a dialogue with other intellectuals, who seek to influence the further development of society. Two opposite intellectual’s attitudes towards nation, civil society, politics and social reality should justify the tradition of dialogue. It is a great creative power, which is important when fostering the culture of tolerance, which encourages trust, enhances perception and creates a healthy and dynamic democratic society. The dialogue between intellectuals is the key value, which forms the spine of such a society.
