ENFormations of knowledge society change of organisation activity and structures condition essential new requirements to a person, his/her business, especially communication, competence. Every person working for a modern organisation must be able to analyse and evaluate a situation, set and constantly clear up one's goals, act in indefinite changing work space. New non-structured activity field - business - calls for new, e.g. business communication, skills from every employee that can warrant effective work in the changing dynamic work space. So educational institutions have to take great social responsibility for the representatives from different managerial work fields to acquire business communication skills at study process which would contribute to successful integration into the system of business world values and culture. The article discusses and reveals the peculiarities and differences of business, management, organisation, corporate and business communication, and it discloses that these different communication fields need different communication skills. To reveal the change of approaches to business communication and their reflection in modem university studies the analysis results of the study programs of Western and Lithuanian universities including business administration subject as well as the research and applied works by Western authors is made. The thorough analysis of the different aspects of the problem enabled to draw the following important conclusions: 1. Knowledge society being formed as well as organisation work and structure being modified, the content of employees' work changes essentially, so usual communication skills that were significant in bureaucratic organisations cannot guarantee effective work. Business is dynamic non-structured activity. The effectiveness of business communication mostly determines the efficiency of work process. 2. Practically speaking, business communication differs from other communication fields of management, organisation and corporation. Every field mentioned, especially business one, should be paid sufficient attention to in business administration studies, and this would enable the formation of universal business competence of a specialist. The approach to the development of business communication skills at Lithuanian universities has slightly been changing for ten years while in the programs of Western universities the development of the skills in question occurred very dynamically from rhetoric to business communication, and today it has found its place in the programs of university studies. The content of business communication module set in the business administration study programs at Lithuanian universities is not adequate to the one at Western university programs. The absence of business communication course at university study programs of business administration is the essential drawback of these programs in the context of the satisfaction of market needs.[…].
