Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article deals with the problematics of time in the works of Alfonsas Nyka-Niliūnas. Poetical experience of time and its philosophizing can be related to Henri Bergson's concept of duration, antique thinkers as well as "the philosophy of life" which was formulated by the Romantics and revived at the beginning of the 20th century. The poet adheres to vitalistic, organic thinking characteristic of the Romantics. Philosophizing at the level of the relation between consciousness and the world should be considered akin to the line of thought of Romanticism and phenomenological thinking. The intensive experience of here and now is included in the concept of duration. The speaker strives to be in duration immanently, to reflect it through cultural signs and metaphors fusing personal experience. On the basis of consciousness and memory of duration, the poet creates a personal mythology. Eternity is conceived as objectification of past times. The validity of the program "Always and everywhere carry everything with yourself" in the process of creation is verified existentially ruthlessly. In the late period, it appears to be less suggestive, the power of memory subsides, and, together with it, so does consciousness of duration. Here and now remains bare and not capable to accumulate the past creatively. [From the publication]
