ENDuring the research into the demand for the development of seafaring students' career self-management skills it was found out those seafaring students are quite well familiar with the particularity of a seafarer's profession and its content, but students' preparation for integration into labor market is inadequate. Properly organized educational work would help students to assess their abilities, character traits as well as the suitability for the chosen profession better; students would get more comprehensive knowledge about the peculiarities and requirements of the chosen profession, demands in the labor market and prospects. The choice of profession and making right decisions with regard to further successful professional activity at large depends on the human ability to assess their own professional interests and skills as well as possession of sufficient information about learning opportunities and the situation in the labor market at hand to be able to cohere what a person "wants" with what he "can do" and what is "needed". The research analysis into Lithuanian scientists’ works indicates that motivation of vocational choice, vocational purposefulness and development of career self-management skills have been investigated in both theoretical and empirical aspects; however, there is a lack of research on seafaring students’ vocational decision-making and developing skills of career self-management. The education and training of seafarers has to comply with maritime business demands while seafarer employers need employees who are properly prepared for vocational practical work at sea. Moreover, employees’ vocational competences have to comply with the requirements of international conventions, and their work has to guarantee safety at sea for people, cargo, ships and environment. Education and training of maritime students’ career self-management skills is determined by legal, labor market and educational factors. Seafaring students' career self-management skills are expressed by self-cognition, adaptation in the labor market, communication and cooperativeness and also by planning for vocational future.
