Iš Seredžiaus pašto praeities

LTKraštotyrinio straipsnelio objektas – Seredžiaus miestelio pašto istorija. Pirmame straipsnio skyrelyje aprašoma Seredžiuje XVIII a. II pusėje – XIX a. ENThe subject of a small article on local history is the story of post office at Seredžius town. The first chapter of the article describes a horse post station open in Seredžius in the late 18th-early 19th centuries; the post station was connected by post tracks (the articles also describes their change); it also reviews possible reasons for the change. Notably the horse post at that time was the only means of communication. In 19th century the horse post also had an important military aspect; as a result, all post stations (incl. one in Seredžius) were under control of the manager of Vilnius Central Post Office, general governor, institutions of the governor and the military. The next chapter of the article examines circumstances behind absence of a post agency in Seredžius in the late 19th-early 20th centuries. The chapter also describes the post agency established in Seredžius in 1923, part of Vilkija post. It mentions the managers of the agency, Jurgis Ūkas ir Pranas Žibas. The third chapter of the publication discusses post offices of Seredžius, established in 1925 and operating until 1940. The article provides some biography of the managers of the post office, incl. Jeronimas Landsbergis, Stasys Šimkus and Pranas Štaras, along with characterisation of their work at post, some financial indicators (regarding specific year), income and costs as well as profit of specific post offices. There is a brief reference to the State savings office established by the post office in 1932 as well as its financial data and telephone connection established in the post office.
