ENActive tourism in Lithuania is still going through a crisis, which goes on from the tenth decade of the previous century. It happened because of the historical and political conditions, administrative reforms. The statistics shows that some of the active tourism types, for example hiking, water tourism, bicycle tourism is slowly coming back to life. But at the same time the lack of professional leaders who could lead people through difficult routes is felt. In Lithuanian law there is no any clear notion of active tourism, there are no clear qualification requirements for the active tourism leader. The difficulty of the route, nature obstacles, the length of the trip, special equipment that is necessary for the successful journey, determine specific features of active tourism. Among the requirements that are held to the trip leader is the ability to evaluate the physical and technical condition of a person, his health condition and during the whole trip take care of the group safety. In order to provide a quality service, the leader must have the knowledge about the route, the geographical and cultural specialties of the place. The leader must have good communication and organization skills, be a trip planner and have skills for report writing. The authors think that only a person who has taken a special qualification exam should lead the group. [From the publication]
