ENThe article investigates some problems of College students' autonomous studies in Engineering English issue and states that the major obstacle in this kind of education is possible to be explained by inadequacy of learner's skills in effective reading of textual material. Effectiveness is understood and defined by Constructivism Theory as the ability of the reader to get an analytical insight into the semantic and logical structure and interlinks between information segmental parts of the text. Furthermore, the reader consciously adopts the new information via psychological processes of accommodation and assimilation and on the bases of one's experience constructs a new meaning. The current research attempts to find out the data about College Engineering specialities students' skills to read effectively, i.e. to apply interactive learning strategies. The findings based on the questionnaire answers suggested by 845 research participants allowed to conclude that the students demonstrated poor experience in the application of interactive learning strategies and they appeared not ready for non-teacher guided forms of studies and strongly needed to be trained to practice the application of the strategies and thus outcomes in students' low rating of their readiness for autonomous form of studying English in post College period.
