An Introductory course in linguistic pragmatics

LTVadovėlis „An Introductory Course in Linguistic Pragmatics“ skirtas aukštųjų mokyklų anglų filologijos studijų programos studentams, išklausiusiems bendrosios kalbotyros kursą. Įžangoje trumpai apžvelgiamos lingvistinės pragmatikos ištakos, samprata ir raida. Lingvistinė pragmatika didžiausią dėmesį skiria kalbėtojui ir jo pasakymo reikšmei, kurią jis siekia atskleisti, bei adresatui ir jo pasakymo interpretacijai, rodančiai, kaip jis suprato pasakymo reikšmę. Vadovėlyje nagrinėjamos pagrindinės lingvistinės pragmatikos temos: deiksė, referencija, presupozicija, implikatūra, šnekos aktai, mandagumo teorijos, pokalbio ir informacinė sakinio struktūros. Kiekvieno skyriaus pabaigoje pateikiama trumpa santrauka, praktiniai pratimai, skirti skaitytojams pasitikrinti kaip suprato temą bei literatūros, kuria remiantis analizuojama tema, šaltinių sąrašas. Daugelis pavyzdžių vadovėlyje pateikiami dviem kalbomis – anglų ir lietuvių. ENThe study book “An Introductory Course in Linguistic Pragmatics” is targeted at higher school students in English Philology who have already taken the course of general linguistics. The introduction gives a brief overview of the origins, concept and development of linguistic pragmatics. Linguistic pragmatics focuses mainly on the speaker and the meaning of his utterance that he wants to reveal as well as the addressee and his interpretation of an utterance, which shows how he understood the meaning of an utterance. The study book analyses the main topics of linguistic pragmatics: deixis, reference, presupposition, implicature, acts of speech, theories of politeness, conversational and informational sentence structure. Each chapter finishes with short summary and practical tips for the readers to check how they understood the topic as well as the list of references. Many examples are presented in English and Lithuanian in the study book. The contrastive mode of presenting the examples has a double benefit: it helps to better grasp the analysed topic and contributes to the learning of English as the second language.
