ENThe article presents Kupiškis gymnasium pupil's memories about his study years in the town from 1941 to 1946. The author touches upon the following issues burning at that time: 1) a youngster's life in rented hostels which were poorly supervised by teachers, the influence of early separation from the family on health and studies; 2) the impact of the war, the occupation of the Nazi and Bolsheviks on the youngster's worldview; 3) the expression of the youth's resistant attitudes, first of all, reading and disseminating the illegal press, the efforts to avoid a call-up to the occupants' army; 4) the patriotic visions of regaining Lithuania's independence; 5) teachers' preparation and abilities to teach and educate pupils and the results of their efforts. The individual author's experience involves the genuine facts of the town and village residents' lifestyle during that complicated period. [From the publication]
