LTStraipsnyje siekta apžvelgti Kupiškio bažnyčios bei parapijos istoriją, kunigų veiklą. Tekstas iš esmės skirtas XX a. istorijai – aprašoma bažnyčios statyba, duomenys apie nekilnojamo turto įsigijimą bei pardavimą, pristatytos XX a. 4–ojo dešimtmečio pabaigoje parapijoje gyvavusios katalikiškosios, ekonominės ir kultūrinės organizacijos, ypač daug vietos skirta šioje parapijoje dirbusių kunigų biografijoms. Yra duomenų apie bažnyčioje ir šventoriuje esančias meno vertybes, paminklus, bažnyčios chorą bei jo vadovus. Kupiškio parapijai priklausė trys filijos: Alizava, Palėvenė ir Šimonys. Straipsnyje daug vietos skirta kai kurių dokumentų, susijusių su viso Kupiškio dekanato istorija tarpukariu, atpasakojimui. Į tekstą įterpti skyreliai apie bažnytinės provincijos įkūrimą Lietuvoje 1926 m., Panevėžio vyskupijos istoriją sovietmečiu ir pastaraisiais dešimtmečiais. Yra duomenų apie Kupiškio rajono KGB skyriaus darbą stebint dvasininkų, moterų vienuolių veiklą rajone. ENFollowing the material from the archives in Kupiškis church and Panevėžys bishopric curia, the Information and Regional Studies Department in the Public Library of Kupiškis Region Municipality, as well as the material of the KGB activities stored in the Lithuanian Special Archive (some sources mentioned are published for the first time) and the literature published, the article focuses on the history of the parish and one of the biggest church of the Ascension in Lithuania from the beginning of the 17th century until present. The history of Kupiškis parish distinguishes a few periods: until the formation of the Lithuanian church province in 1926, 1926-1940 (independent Lithuania), 1940-1990 (the war and occupation) and from 1990 after Lithuania regained its independence. The article presents the structure of Kupiškis deanery in respect to Panevėžys bishopric, the biographical data of the priests who worked in Kupiškis, details the change of the church domain in prewar-Lithuania and the cultural activities, cultural life of the parish at that time. The article describes the Germans' graves which put the church to trouble, the management of the church-owned buildings, purchasing new bells and the altaria establishment. The publication describes the priests' conferences held in Kupiškis deanery, their position with regard to the government: the priests' protest letter to the president.Considerable attention is paid to the KGB activities, the work states that security bodies did not receive help from Kupiškis deanery (neither in a polite manner, nor with smear or threats). Special attention was paid to Monsignor Klemensas Gutauskas, Freeman of Kupiškis region (1915-2002), who worked in the town from 1964 until he died. The Monsignor's repairs in the church, the folk art works which appeared in the churchyard during his deanship, other artistic valuables are detailed in the article. There are data about the church choir, its courage and determination to go to neighbouring parishes even during the soviet occupation. The article presents the vicars of Kupiškis parish the Monsignor educated, mentions bishops' visits to Kupiškis church, describes the present-day catholic organizations.
