Besitraukiančios tautos tragedija

LTMūsų, lietuvių tauta, bene vienintelė Europoje per tūkstantmetį nuo Lietuvos valstybės susiformavimo beveik nepadidėjo nei plotais, nei lietuviškai kalbančiųjų skaičiumi. Net tada, kai Lietuvos valstybė tęsėsi nuo Baltijos iki Juodosios jūros, nuo Pamaskvio iki Karpatų kalnų, nebuvo atsiradę nė vieno naujo lietuviško rajono. Ir po Pirmojo pasaulinio karo atkuriamos Lietuvos valstybės vadovai tepretendavo tik maždaug į 120 tūkst. kv. km ploto etninių lietuvių žemių valstybę, t. y. tokią, kokia ji buvo maždaug karaliaus Mindaugo valdymo pradžioje. Tik apie tokio dydžio lietuvių etninėse žemėse Lietuvos valstybę tesvajojo ir lietuvių tautos prisikėlimo savarankiškam gyvenimui žadintojai, bet ne apie Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės ribose valstybės atkūrimą. Straipsnyje ieškoma atsakymų į šiuos klausimus: dėl ko ir savo valstybėje lietuvių tautos ribos mažėjo, kaip ir mažėjo lietuviškai kalbančiųjų; kodėl lietuvių tauta netapo didele, kaip, sakysime, lenkų, vokiečių, rusų, nors jų valstybių kūrimosi metais gyventojų skaičiai ne tiek daug skyrėsi; kaip atsitiko, kad buvusi viena galingiausių Rytų Europoje Lietuvos valstybė pasidavė Lenkijos įtakai ir tapo jos provincija, o pati lietuvių tauta buvo atsidūrusi ant galutinio išnykimo ribos; kiek dabartinės Lietuvos valdantieji pasimokė iš liūdnos savo, lietuvių tautos istorijos.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Tauta; Valstybė; Identitetas; Nation; State; Identity; Teritorija; Etninis identitetas; Territory; Ethnic identity.

ENOur Lithuanian nation, perhaps the only one in Europe over a millennium after the formation of the Lithuanian state, has not increased neither by the areas nor the number of Lithuanian speakers. Even when the state of Lithuania stretched from the Baltic to the Black Sea, from Pamaskvio to the Carpathian mountains, there was not any new Lithuanian district originated. And the leaders of Lithuanian state being restored after World War II claimed just the state of ethnic Lithuanian lands of the area of only about 120 thousand square km, i.e. as it was at about the beginning of King Mindaugas' ruling. The awakening for resurrection of Lithuanian nation for independent life were dreaming of the state of Lithuania to be within only about such area on Lithuanian ethnic lands, but not of the reconstruction of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania within the framework of state. The article sought answers to the following questions: why the boundaries of Lithuanian nation were decreasing in own country like the number of speaking Lithuanian was decreasing, too; why Lithuanian nation did not become large like, say, Polish, German, Russian, even though the figures of population were not much different during the establishment of the state; how it happened that one of the most powerful states - Lithuania in the former Eastern Europe surrendered itself to Poland’s influence and became its province, and the Lithuanian nation itself ended with the final extinction point; how the ruling of current Lithuania learned from their own sad history of Lithuanian people.
