LTSapiegų rūmai ir parkas - vienintelis išlikęs baroko laikotarpio rūmų ir parko ansamblis. Mūsų dienas pasiekė didžioji dalis svarbiausių šio ansamblio komponentų - teritorija, parką ir rūmų kiemą ribojusios sienos ar jų liekanos, abeji vartai ansamblio kompozicijos ašyje tarp Antakalnio gatvės ir rūmų pagrindinio portalo, dar įžiūrimas parko išplanavimas. Nuo XIX a. vid. inventorius skaitė daug senovės tyrinėtojų, istorikų. Anuomet neprireikė, o gal buvo neįmanoma tiksliai nusakyti, kurioje rūmų patalpoje buvo parketas, kurioje marmuras, kuriame kambaryje valgomasis, miegamasis ar panašiai - pakako apibendrinto interjerų puošybos, kuria garsėjo Sapiegų rūmai, aprašymo. Inventoriuose aprašytų kambarių identifikavimą aiškiai komplikavo XIX a. ir XX a. pasikeitęs rūmų kapitalinių sienų ir tuo pačiu kambarių išsidėstymas, ne visada pakankamai aiškios ėjimo kryptį nusakančios nuorodos, taip pat šioks toks inventorių sudarytojų maršrutų nenuoseklumas. Šiandien keliami uždaviniai, pastangos rūmus kada nors restauruoti reikalauja nepalyginamai didesnio tikslumo. Prielaidos identifikuoti inventoriuose aprašytas rūmų patalpas atsirado po žvalgomųjų 1993 m. architektūrinių tyrimų. 2008 m. užbaigta tyrimo "Sapiegų rūmų interjero architektūra ir dekoras pagal istorinių šaltinių ir natūros tyrimus" ataskaita, kurios I dalis skirta inventorių sudarytojų maršrutų rūmuose ir aprašytų kambarių identifikavimui. Architektūrinių natūros tyrimų metodais patikslintas K. J. ENSapiega Palace and Park - the only baroque palace and park ensemble extant to the present day. Most of the major components of this ensemble remained until the present day, inclusing the area, park and the remains of palace courtyard fence, both gates between the Antakalnis Street and the main portal of the palace, and the layout of the park is still visible. Since the mid-19th c., the inventory documents have been read by many scholars and historians. At that time, it was not possible, or maybe it was unnecessary to specify the rooms having parquet flooring or marble floor, where exactly were a dining room, a bedroom, etc. – a general description of interior decoration the Sapieha Palace was famous for was enough. The identification of the rooms described in the inventory documents was complicated due to the changes in the arrangement of rooms during the 19th-20th c., undclear references to the entrance directions as well as inconsistencies in the routes prepared by different inventory compillers. The intentions to reconstruct require much greater accuracy than that. The attemps to identify the premises described in the inventory documents appeared after the architectural studies in 1993. The report Sapiegų rūmų interjero architektūra ir dekoras pagal istorinių šaltinių ir natūros tyrimus (en. Architecture of Sapieha palace and interior decoration according to historical sources and factual research) was completed in 2008. The first part of it deals with the identification of the routes made by inventory compillers and the rooms described. Using the methods architectural factural research, the layout of K. J. Sapiega palace was detalized, and the structure of interior spaces was determined.
