The European Union document “A Memorandumo on Lifelong Learning” (2001) emphasises the necessity of self-cognition and providing meaningfulness to life: “A person must perceive his identity and goal of life“. Professional activity is one of the main factors in providing the meaningfulness to life. Coherent development of a professional interiorisation process is a very important factor in understanding human value and dignity, personality self-actualisation, self-realisation, total outspread of one‘s abilities and constant improvement, revelation of internal personal experience through professional activity. Self-realisation in professional activity is a very important precondition for prevention of suicide, drug addiction and delinquency. The analysis of the works by the Lithuanian patriarch of pedagogy S. Šalkauskis (1929) and pioneers of Lithuanian pedagogy and professiology (vocational education and training) J. Vabalas-Gudaitis (1931), A. Gučas (1937) and others allows to state that identification of one‘s vocational expression and coherent development of professional interiorisation is an indespensable component of integrated personality development and its all-rounded and meaningful life. The analysis of the scientific works by the following authors was carried out: S. G udelis (1983), V. V overis (1983), L. Jovaiša (1981, 1999, 2001), R. Laužackas (1998, 1999), K. Pukelis (1995, 1998), K. Miškinis (1998), V. Aramavičiūtė (1998) and others. This analysis leads to conclusion that professional vocation is the main element of personality professional interiorisation which is a complicated phenomenon and calls for comprehensive psychological and educological research. Professional vocation is an essential element of career designing, its major elements being: providing sense to professional activity, professional interest, professional motivation, professional suitability and professional purposefulness. The main conclusion of this article: the identification and realisation of vocation determines person‘s attitude to professional activity, exerting a crucial impact upon the person‘s work quality and productivity, successful career, personality self-realisation and development, providing sense to person‘s existence.
