Lithuanian theatre critique in the first decades of the 20th century : the problem of denomination

LTKada iš tiesų prasidėjo lietuvių teatro kritika? Nors praėjo daugiau kaip šimtas metų nuo pirmųjų straipsnių lietuvių kalba, skirtų teatrui, pasirodymo, istorikai nesutaria dėl teatro kritikos pradžios datavimo, jie siūlo daugybę skirtingų datų. Žinoma, kad teatrui skirti tekstai Lietuvos spaudoje pasirodė XIX a. pabaigoje. Kritinis požiūris į spektaklius radosi pasikeitus politinei situacijai 1900 m. viduryje. Nuo 1904 m. iki 1914 m. leistuose straipsniuose pasigendama argumentacijos – viskas vertinama per „patiko“ ar „nepatiko“ prizmę. Šis straipsnis skiriamas dvidešimtojo amžiaus pradžios lietuvių teatro kritikai bei kontraversiškam jos statusui lietuvių teatro istoriografijoje. Tradiciškai kritiniai šio periodo tekstai yra nuvertinami dėl abejotinų profesionalumo bei objektyvumo kriterijų, taikomų autoriams. Atmetus apriorinį požiūrį bei traktuojant kritiką kaip meninio sąmoningumo ženklą, leidžiant rekonstruoti teatrinio įvykio suvokimo strategiją, įmanoma gilesnė ir vaisingesnė analizė, leidžianti tiksliau nustatyti lietuvių teatro kritikos pradžią. Pagrindiniais požymiais, padedančiais nustatyti teatrui skirto teksto prigimtį, tampa intelektualinė autoriaus pozicija spektaklio atžvilgiu, subjektyvaus vertinimo elemento intensyvėjimas, visuomenės reakcija į viešai išsakytas kritines pastabas bei polinkis į autorefleksiją, užsimezgęs bendrame dvidešimtojo amžiaus pradžios lietuvių meno kritikos diskurse.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Lietuvos teatro istorija; Teatro kritika; XX amžiaus pradžios Lietuvos spauda; Lithuanian press of the early 20th century; Lithuanian theatre history; Theatre critique.

ENWhen did the real beginning of Lithuanian theatre critics took place? Although more than a hundred years passed from the first Lithuanian articles about theatre, historians do not agree on the date of the beginning of theatre critics; they offer many different dates. It is known that the texts about theatre appeared in Lithuanian press at the end of the 19th c. Critical view to plays appeared after the change in political situation in the middle of 1990. The articles published from 1904 to 1914 lack of argumentation. Everything is evaluated according to one's “likes” and “dislikes”. This article is about the Lithuanian theatre critics of the beginning of the 20th c. and its controversial status in the historiography of Lithuanian theatre. Traditionally, the texts of this period are devaluated because of doubtful criteria of regularity and objectivity that were applied to authors. Despite a priori point of view and considering critics as a sign of creative consciousness and allowing reconstruction of the strategy of theatrical process perception, it is possible to make a deeper and more effective analysis that would allow determining the real beginning of Lithuanian theatre critics. The main features according to which the nature of article about theatre may be determined are an intellectual author's position with regard to a play, the intensity of a subjective evaluation, society's reaction to public critical opinions and tendency to demonstrate self-reflection that appeared in a general discourse of the Lithuanian art critics of the beginning of the 20th c.
