ENThe article aims at revealing what personal and professional qualities are important for implementation of organisational tasks that are subject to constant changes in the environment. Effective management of an organization is ensured by all management functions, however to a very large extent the management of an organisation heavily depends on a manager, his/her way of thinking; therefore a manager faces rather difficult task - to change or revise his/her thinking intentionally, to develop and foster personal and professional qualities while striving for welfare of his/her organization and people who work there. Traditional and new requirements to the managerial work are described referring to W.C. Byham, A.B.Smith, M.J.Paese, and S.Chowdhury: modern managers should be able to work in constantly changing environment; to think more globally; to manage more personnel although providing considerably less time for that; to inspire and support their staff at the same time not diminishing their responsibility for the results of work; to search constantly for new possible ways of employing innovative measures in organization performance and to incite his/her staff to act in the same way; to adapt to cross-cultural differences and to use them as a benefit for further development of organization possibilities; to be able to apply different styles of management. All the above factors allow for rather significant distinction between the performance of modern and last century managers. The article presents the results of the research conducted on unfolding how the leaders of various Lithuania's organizations perceive the significance and the need of development of leaders' personal and business qualities and value orientation. The data was collected using the author's set open questions. The results of the research were processed using the SPSS program. [From the publication]
