EN1. Most commonly, Agent is described as a function of action performer [Ag1] and [Ag2]. Some researchers (3, 405; 1, 25; 11, 19; 9, 140) understand Agent [Ag1] not only as a performer of an action, but also as an action initiator. The actant of the Agent [Ag1] function singled out by the afore-mentioned researchers is not the initiator of an action, because he/she does not initiate an action but merely performs the action on his/her own initiative. Therefore, in the paper such an actant performing an action on his/her own initiative is denominated as [Ag1]. However, performance of an action on one's own initiative and initiation of an action are different aspects. For this reason it is beside the purpose to consider [Ag1] as a function of an action performer and initiator. The function of Agent initiator [Aginic] is utterly different - the action is initiated to make another performer do it. Agent initiator [Aginic] is singled out by the author as a separate variety of Agent function. 2. Here Agent initiator [Agįnįc] presupposed by Lithuanian verbs is defined as a function, the actant of which initiates the action of another doer. 3. The functions of Agent initiator [Aginic] are presupposed by transitive curative, autocurative and certain transitive verbs of making denoting motion and physical material actions. 4. The functions of Agent initiator [Aginic] are mostly characteristic of persons. The typical expression of Agent initiator function is the nominative case. [From the publication]
