LTStraipsnyje nagrinėjama miestų reformos problema Ketverių metų seimo laikotarpiu. Šiame kontekste svarbus vaidmuo teko Lietuvos pakanclerio Joachimo Liutauro Chreptavičiaus politinei veiklai. Išryškinamas pakanclerio aktyvumas, sprendžiant miestų reformos ir miestiečių statuso problemas, norint pastaruosius pilnai įtraukti į Abiejų Tautų Respublikos visuomeninį, politinį ir ekonominį gyvenimą. Pristatomos Joachimo Liutauro Chreptavičiaus idėjinės pozicijos rodo jį buvus iškiliu Apšvietos epochos reprezentantu Abiejų Tautų Respublikoje. ENThe article examines the town reform problem during the period of the Great Sejm. In this context an important role was played by the political activities of Lithuanian chancellor Joachim Liutauras Chreptavičius. The article highlights his activities when resolving the problems, pertaining to the town reform and the status of the townspeople in order to fully involve them into the social, political and economic life of the Polish – Lithuanian Commonwealth. The described ideological viewpoints of Joachim Liutauras Chreptavičius show him as a prominent representative of the Renaissance epoch in the Polish – Lithuanian Commonwealth. Upon analyzing his correspondence, pertaining to economy and the town reform, the author presents his concept, highlighting the following aspects: the recession in towns is explained by the reduction of power in the state, since the authorities have to create the conditions for colonizing, the immunity of the private and personal property of a townsperson, without a court ruling is a town development factor and townspeople’s representatives must have a voting right in the sejms of the Republic.
