Disappearing sounds : Lithuanian folk music recorded in 1935-1939

LTApžvalgoje pristatomi lietuvių liaudies dainų 1935-1939 m. fonografo įrašai. Šie vos girdimi, traškantys lietuvių tautosakos įrašai yra išsaugoję senųjų liaudies dainų skambesį, tarmišką šneką, įvairių instrumentų garsus. Daugelį metų pamiršti Lietuvių literatūros ir tautosakos instituto archyve, dabar šie įrašai yra suskaitmeninti, restauruoti ir publikuojami atskiriems Lietuvos regionams skirtomis kompaktinėmis plokštelėmis pagal 2001 m. Lietuvių literatūros ir tautosakos institute pradėtą archyvinių garso įrašų restauravimo ir leidybos programą. Pirmoji plokštelė "Suvalkijos dainos ir muzika" buvo išleista 2003 m. Plokštelė, pristatanti šiaurės rytų Aukštaitijos vokalinę ir instrumentinę polifoniją, pasirodė 2004 m. Rengiant įrašus leidybai tikėtasi, kad jie sudomins ir šių dienų klausytojus - nuties tiltus tarp skirtingų istorinių laikotarpių, savitai nuskambės dabarties kontekste. 1935-1939 m. fonografo plokštelėse įrašyta lietuvių tautosaka išties atspindi ne tik to meto dainininkų ir muzikantų repertuarą, savitą jų atlikimo manierą, bet ir temperamentą. Juose užfiksuotas dainos tempas, balso tembras, ritmo pulsavimas bei melodijų vingrybės atskleidžia lietuvių valstiečių jauseną. Lyginant XX a. pirmosios pusės ir XXI a. pradžios garsinius dokumentus, galima pastebėti ne tik muzikos stiliaus bei atlikimo pokyčius, bet ir ano meto bei dabarties žmonių mentaliteto skirtumus. Senieji liaudies muzikos įrašai unikalūs ir kitu požiūriu: juose dar labai ryškiai atsispindi įvairių Lietuvos regionų - Aukštaitijos, Žemaitijos, Suvalkijos, Dzūkijos - liaudies muzikos ypatumai.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Fonografo įrašai; Lietuvių etninė muzika; Phonograph recordings; Ethnic music.

ENThe review presents the phonograph records of Lithuanian folk songs of 1935-1939. Those sub-audible and crackled records of Lithuanian folklore have preserved the sound of old Lithuanian songs, the folk dialect and sounds of different instruments. The records, which had been forgotten in the archives of the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore for many years were restored, digitally remastered and are being published in the form of compact disks, containing the materials of different regions of Lithuania according to the programme of remastering and publication of archive audio recordings, initiated by the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore in 2001. The first CD, “The Songs and Music of Suvalkija” was issued in 2003. The CD, presenting the vocal and instrumental polyphony of the Northeastern Aukštaitija, was issued in 2004. When preparing the records for issuing, it was expected that they will also be of interest to a modern listener, bridge the gap between the different historical periods and be a distinctive sound in the modern context. The Lithuanian folklore, recorded on the 1935-1939 phonograph plates reflects both the repertoire of the singers and musicians of the period and their peculiar performing manner and temperament. The songs tempo, voice timbre, rhyme pulse and melodic tricks reveal the feelings of the Lithuanian peasants. Comparing the audio documents of the first half of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century, both changes of the musical style and performance and changes in the peoples’ mentality can be noted. The old folk music records are also unique in the following aspect: they very clearly reveal the particularities of folk music of different regions of Lithuania - Aukštaitija, Žemaitija, Suvalkija and Dzūkija.
