LTLietuva pastaraisiais metais puikiai vykdė valstybės skolos ir biudžeto deficito konvergencijos kriterijus, t. y. neviršijo apibrėžtų atitinkamų 60 proc. ir 3 proc. Mastrichto sutartyje numatytų referencinių reikšmių. Kita vertus, pastaruoju metu vis dažniau ekonomistų forumuose pastebima, kad šalies skolinimosi aspektai yra pakankamai problemiški, fiskalinio deficito padidėjimas artimiausiais metais atrodo neišvengiamas, tad fiskalinę politiką formuoti bus tikrai nelengva. Atsižvelgiant į apibrėžtus probleminius argumentus valstybės finansinio stabilumo atžvilgiu, straipsnyje išnagrinėtos minėtų kriterijų vykdymo tendencijos, jas nulėmę esminiai veiksniai, įvertinti ryšiai su kitais makroekonominiais rodikliais. Tai leidžia atskleisti probleminius aspektus, galimus problemų sprendimo būdus ir išvengti rizikos vėl netapti visateise EVS nare ateityje.
