Vadovai kaip lyderiai bibliotekose: darbuotojų požiūris.

LTBibliotekų kaita, nors ir veikiama vietos sąlygų ir kultūros, peržengia nacionalinių valstybių ribas ir yra pasiekusi globalų mastą. Todėl įvairiose šalyse naujo bibliotekų vaidmens apibrėžimų, plėtros programų ir strategijų bei vizijų turinys yra panašus - kalbama apie naujus tikslus, tikslines paslaugas, informacijos formas ir laikmenas, automatizaciją, skaitmeninimą, interneto ir žiniatinklio prieigą ir t. t. Bibliotekoje, kaip ir kitose institucijose, reikia efektyvios veiklos, darnaus kolektyvinio darbo ir gero įvaizdžio. Tam pagrindą teikia profesionali vadyba, todėl labai svarbus yra vadovo gebėjimas lyderiauti. Tyrimas iš esmės patvirtina, kad lyderio vaidmenį bibliotekų darbuotojai dažniausiai priskiria aukščiausio lygmens vadovams. Tačiau nėra visiškai aiškus lyderio veiklos turinys, arba tai, kas skiria lyderį nuo nelyderio; tai ryškėja iš apklausos rezultatų ir teorinių lyderio vaidmens apibrėžimų prieštaravimų. Vis dėlto galima manyti, kad tirtose bibliotekose lyderius darbuotojai mato kaip energingas, intelektualias, atsakingas ir komunikabilias asmenybes. Geriausiai vadovai-lyderiai įgudę viešai kalbėti, biblioteką pristatyti bei vadovauti posėdžiams; jie yra demokratinio stiliaus vadovai. Pagrindinės bibliotekų lyderių funkcijos, darbuotojų požiūriu, yra sukurti efektyviai dirbančią komandą bei ginti bibliotekos darbuotojų interesus. Tad galima teigti, kad tikrieji lyderiai labiau išryškėja tose bibliotekose, kuriose vadovas organizuoja darbus pasitelkęs komandą. ENDevelopment of libraries, although influenced by local environment and culture, has surpassed the national limits and reached the global level. Therefore the content of definitions of the new role of libraries, development programmes, strategies and visions is similar in different countries – new goals, target services, forms and media of information, automation, digitalization, Internet and World Wide Web access, etc., are discussed. As any other institutions, libraries need efficient activities, harmonious staff work and good image, which is ensured by professional management, therefore the leadership abilities of the manager are of utmost importance. The study in essence confirms that library employees most frequently credit the leader’s role to the top level managers. However, the content of the activities of the leader and what distinguishes a leader is still not entirely clear. This is shown by the results of survey and the contradictions of theoretical definitions of a leader’s role. Still it can be presumed that the employees of the surveyed libraries see leaders as energetic, intelligent, responsible and social personalities. The best managers, i. e. leaders are skilled in giving public speeches, presenting the library and holding meetings; they are managers of the democratic style. The main functions of library leaders, in the view of employees are the development of an efficient team and protection of the interests of the library employees. Therefore it can be stated that true leaders most frequently manifest themselves in the libraries, where the manager arranges the activities with the help of a team. The manager’s powers are also supplemented and extended with the team members’ competence, which is very characteristic of the large libraries, performing significant functions, which are analyzed in the present research.
