Old Lithuanian pame(d)mi 'imitate'

LTStraipsnio tikslas – išanalizuoti senosios lietuvių kalbos žodžio pame(d)mi reikšmę ir genezę. Šis retas senosios lietuvių kalbos žodis pirmą kartą pažymėtas trečiąjame Sirvydo žodyno leidime. Straipsnio autorius pripažįsta Sirvydo iškeltą pamėmi kaip ‘mėgdžioti’ reikšmę. Taip pat pabrėžia, kad jeigu pasektume žodžio pamėmi etimologiją, matytume, kad šis žodis dažniausiai buvo siejamas su kitais veiksmažodžiais, kurių reikšmė panaši - ‘mėgdžioti, imituoti’, ‘parodijuoti’. Straipsnio autorius taip pat linkęs pamėmi sieti su šaknimi *med- ‘matuoti’. Šaknis *med- yra gerai žinoma savo reikšmių platumu. Baltų kalbose *med-mai autorius sieja su bendrąją reikšme ‘matuoti’. Kadangi tai vienintelė reikšmė, kurią galime rekonstruoti iš giminingų kalbų, o taip pat tai vienintelė reikšmė pripažinta vokiečių kalboje, artimiausioje baltų kalboms šakoje, iš kurios ir pasiskolinta minėtojo žodžio reikšmė.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Senoji lietuvių kalba.

ENThe purpose of the article is to analyse the meaning and genesis of the old Lithuanian word pame(d)mi. This rare old Lithuanian word was for the first time included in the third edition of Sirvydas’ dictionary. The author of the article recognises the meaning “to imitate” in the word pamėmi included by Sirvydas. The author also emphasises that if we traced the etymology of the word pamėmi, we would see that this word was often associated with other verbs with a similar meaning – “to imitate”, “to parody”. The author of the article also tends to associate the word pamėmi with the root *med- “to measure”. The root *med- is well-known for variety of meanings. In the Baltic languages the author associates *med-mai with the general meaning “to measure”. As this is the only meaning which we can restore from related languages and also the only meaning recognised in the German language, which is the most related to the Baltic languages and from which this meaning is borrowed.
