ENA rather substantial collection of liturgical textile, preserved in the Providence Church (Kriaunos, Lithuania), has a significant artistic, historical, typological value. In 1960s, some artefacts from this collection were registered in the list of historical and cultural monuments of Lithuanian SSR, but they were given no studies. Unfortunately, the oldest liturgical garments mentioned in a document dated to 1688 were lost. The earliest preserved examples of artistic textile kept in the church may be dated back to the second quarter or mid of the 18th century. Among them, there are two articles of the chalice - a velum and a bursa - decorated with expressive embroidery, as well as a gorgeous set of liturgical garments with the Platers' coat of arms and a date of 1750. It is known from written sources that in 1837 this set, by the order of bishop Andrius Benediktas Klongevičius, was brought to Kriaunos from the closed Antalieptė church. Of value is also a pair of dalmaticas made of superb-quality finely decorated silk tissues. They were donated to the church by Sofija Bialozorovaitė-Riomerienė, the second wife of Edvardas Jonas Riomeris, the owner of Kriaunos and a Trakai dignitary. The white ornatus donated to the church in 1877 by Antanas Veisenhofas, the owner of the Pakriaunis manor, is of typological interest as a rather early example of production of a church workshop. Worth mentioning are the white ornatus and shroud manufactured by the "T. Syrakacz and son” workshop from Warsaw.Liturgical textile of the early 20th century is represented by a black ornatus characterized by an inconspicuous decorativeness made of neobaroque cotton jacquard tissue before World War I. The set of liturgical garments preserved in the Kriaunos church is interesting not only to art critics, but also to historians and culture researchers. The data presented in the paper allow also a more precise dating and attributing of analogous textile artefacts and shed more light on the history of the patronage of church. [From the publication]
