Between Curonia and Bavaria. Animal-head brooches resulting from long-distance connections during Migration Period

LTGermanų kultūros tarpregioninis charakteris gerai žinomas, tačiau baltų iki dabar dar sunkiai pastebimas. Tokiu tarpregioninio baltų kultūros plėtros pavyzdžiu gali būti lankinės ilgakojės ir gyvūninėmis galvutėmis segės. Jos paplitę didelėse teritorijose tarp Skandinavijos, baltų žemių ir Bavarijos iš vienos pusės, ir Dniepro baseino iš kitos. Apie šias seges nemažai rašyta, tačiau niekas nebandė analizuoti jų tarpusavio susiskirstymo. Straipsnyje analizuojama jų raida, pateikiama nauja klasifikacija, chronologija ir istorinė interpretacija. Segių gyvūninėmis galvutėmis klasifikacija neturi aiškių kriterijų. Į tą patį tipą patenka skirtingus požymius ir net konstrukciją turintys dirbiniai. Autorė siūlo paprastą bendrą kriterijų joms išskirti, t. y. segės su reljefiniu ornamentu ir be jo. Jas taip skirstant galima išvengti ilgų pavadinimų. Lankinių segių gyvūniniais galais chronologiją nustatyta nėra labai lengva. Daug jų yra rastos atsitiktinai, kitos kapų komplektuose be gerai datuojamų dirbinių. Tarp dviejų populiarių segių tipų paplitimo arealų- vakaruose kryžinių segių, rytuose - lankinių segių ilga kojele, pasirodė retas hibridas - lankinės segės gyvūniniais galais. Tokia transformacija galėjo prasidėti Elande. Ryšiai tarp šios salos ir Baltijos jūros pietrytinių pakrančių, ypač Sambijos plito labai greitai. Baltų žemėse segės gyvūninėmis galvutėmis tapo vyrų papuošalu, Skandinavijoje - moterų. ENThe interregional character of the German culture is well known however it is still scarcely noticed by the Balts. An example of the interregional development of the Baltic culture could be the bended brooches with animal shaped pins, which were spread on large territories between Scandinavia, the Baltic lands and Bavaria from one side and the watershed of the Dnieper from the other side. A lot has been written on the said brooches however nobody has attempted to classify them. The article provides an analysis of their development, presents a new classification, chronology and historical interpretation. The classification of brooches with animal shaped pins has no clear criteria. The articles with different characteristics or even of different construction fall into the same type. The author suggests a simple common criterion for classification, i. e. brooches with or without an embossed ornament. Such classification helps to avoid long titles. The chronology of bended brooches with animal shaped pins is quite difficult to identify. A significant number of them were found by incident, others were found in grave sets without any well dated articles. Between the two areas of spread of popular types of brooches, i. e. the cross shaped brooches in the West and bended brooches in the East, there emerged a peculiar hybrid, i. e. bended brooches with animal shaped pins. Such a transformation could have begun in Eland. The connections between the said island and the Southeastern coasts of the Baltic Sea, especially Sambia developed very quickly. In the Baltic lands the brooches with animal shaped pins became a decoration for men, in Scandinavia – for women. The craftsman of an unknown nationality produced the decorations of the same type by attempting to satisfy a Curonian warrior from Geistautai and a beautiful Scandinavian young lady, who got married in Bavaria.
