Užvenčio Šv. Marijos Magdalenos bažnyčia
LTPirmąją bažnyčią Užventyje pastatė ir įrengė XVII a. pačioje pradžioje ar net XVI a. pabaigoje LDK iždininkas ir Užvenčio žemių laikytojas Matas Vaina. Nuolatinę fundaciją 1609 m. vasario 5 d. patvirtino valdovas Zigmantas Vaza, tuometinės valdovo žemių laikytojos Elzbietos Goslavskos Vainienės prašymu. Kaip atrodė pirmoji bažnyčia - nežinoma. XVII a. viduryje jau minima, kad senoji bažnyčia 1637 m. buvo perstatyta, konsekruota Švč. Mergelės Marijos Ėmimo į dangų ir šv. Mato titulu, o papildomai fundaciją dar paskyręs buvęs Žemaičių seniūnas Jeronimas Valavičius. Tuo metu neseniai buvo pastatyta ir nauja klebonija. 1827 m. Užvenčio klebono pareigas perėmė Jurgis Tvarijonavičius, kuris ėmėsi remontuoti tuo metu jau apgailėtinos būklės bažnyčią. Parapijiečių ir bažnyčios koliatorių lėšomis 1835 m. bažnyčia iš pagrindų remontuota, perkaltos sienos, sutvirtintas ir perdengtas stogas, virš presbiterijos iškeltas bokštas ir dar trys nedideli bokšteliai kampuose. 1839 m. bažnyčioje buvo dviejų tarpsnių didysis altorius, kuriame kabojo bažnyčios titulo šv. Marijos Magdalenos paveikslas. Stogo konstrukcija pasirodė nepatikima ir 1863 m. jis vėl remontuotas. Galbūt tuo metu kupolo pavidalo bokštas, buvęs virš presbiterijos, perkeltas virš prieangio. 1882 m. naujai apkaltos ir bažnyčios sienos. Dabartinė Užvenčio bažnyčia liudija įvairaus laikotarpio perstatymus. Išlikęs XVIII a. pradžioje statytos bažnyčios planas, tačiau sienos ir stogo konstrukcijos pakeistos jau XIX a.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Užventis; Šv. ENThe first church in Užventis was constructed and equipped at the very beginning of the 17th century or even at the end of the 16th century by Matas Vainas, the treasurer of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the owner of the Užventis lands. The permanent foundation was confirmed by the ruler Sigismund III Vasa on 5 February, 1609 at the request of the holder of the ruler’s lands Elzbieta Goslawska Vainienė. It is not known what the first church looked like. In the middle of the 17th century it is already mentioned that the old church was reconstructed in 1637, consecrated as the church of the Assumption and St. Matthew and an additional foundation was granted by the former Samogitian elder Jeronimas Valavičius. The new presbytery was also constructed at the time. In 1827 the position of the priest of Užventis was taken over by Jurgis Tvarijonavičius, who commenced repairs of the church, which was in a pitiable state at the time. By the funds, contributed by the congregation and collaters of the church, in 1835 the church underwent essential repairs, its walls and roof were reinforced, a tower was placed above the presbytery and three more small towers were placed at the corners. In 1839 a two-level big altar with a painting of St. Mary Magdalene was installed. The roof construction appeared unreliable and in 1863 the roof was repeatedly repaired and the dome tower, which was previously above the presbytery, was moved above the entryway. In 1882 the walls of the church were sheathed. The present-day Užventis church evidences restorations, which happened in different periods. The plan of the church, constructed at the beginning of the 18th century was retained however the walls and roof constructions were replaced already in the 19th century.
