Palendrių benediktinų vienuolynas

LTXX a. penktojo dešimtmečio pabaigoje, uždarius Aušros Vartų Švč. Mergelės Marijos oratoriją, pusę šimtmečio Palendrių kaimo ir aplinkinių vienkiemių katalikai neturėjo maldos namų. Ilgainiui gyvenvietė ištuštėjo. XXI a. išvakarėse, čia pradėjus kurtis broliams benediktinams, vietovė ėmė sparčiai atsigauti, o Šv. Benedikto vienuolynas Lietuvoje išgarsėjo kaip ramybės ir susikaupimo oazė, tikinčiųjų traukos židinys. 1995 m. kardinolas V. Sladkevičius išdavė kanoninį leidimą Solemo benediktinų abatijai steigti vienuolyną Kelmės parapijoje, Palendrių kaime. Įsigytas 67 ha žemės sklypas, pradėta tvarkyti Aušros Vartų Švč. Mergelės Marijos oratorija: pakeista yranti stogo konstrukcija, pastatas pagal išgales konservuotas, sutvarkyta teritorija. Buvusios K. Ambrozaičio klebonijos vietoje Šiaulių architektas Darius Jakubauskas suprojektavo laikinus vienuolyno namus. Naujas aiškios, logiškos struktūros, įmantriomis formomis neperkrautas, autentišką benediktinų vienuolynų nuotaiką puoselėjantis projektas sukurtas 1997 m., realizuotas 1999-2001 m. Pastatų tūriai suprojektuoti taip, kad organiškai įsikomponuotų į landšaftą, subtiliai atitiktų lietuviško kraštovaizdžio bei tradicinės architektūros pobūdį ir suformuotų patogų naudoti daugiafunkcinį kompleksą. Projekte paisyta dviejų esminių reikalavimų - ansamblį integruoti į vietos gyvenimą ir išreikšti esminę benediktinams būdingą pamaldumo dvasią. Planuojama, kad ir šalia komplekso rymanti Aušros Vartų Švč. ENAt the end of forties of the 20th century, after the Blessed Virgin Mary Oratory of the Gates of Dawn was closed, the Palendriai village and neighbouring farmsteads’ Catholics had no church for half of a century. Eventually the settlement got empty. On the eve of the 21st century, after Benedictine brothers settled there, the location commenced its rapid revival and the St. Benedict convent became known as an oasis of peace and serenity and a hotbed of attraction of believers. In 1995 cardinal V. Sladkevičius issued the canonical permission to the Benedictine abbey to found a convent in the Kelmė parish, Palendriai village. The plot of land of 67 hectares was purchased, the Blessed Virgin Mary Oratory of the Gates of Dawn commenced to be put in order: the crumbling construction of the roof was replaced, the building was preserved according to the possibilities, the territory was put in order. Instead of the former presbytery of K. Ambrozaitis, the Šiauliai architect Darius Jakubauskas designed a temporary building for the convent. The new project of a clear and logical structure, not abundant with elaborate forms and nurturing the authentic mood of Benedictine convents was developed in 1997 and implemented in 1999-2001. The building spaces were designed in the manner ensuring their organic integration into the scenery and subtle compatibility with the character of Lithuanian landscape and the traditional architecture and formation of a convenient multifunctional complex. The project dedicated the main attention to two essential requirements, i. e. integration of the ensemble into the local life and expression of the essential spirit of godliness, characteristic of the Benedictines. It is planned that the Blessed Virgin Mary Oratory of the Gates of Dawn, existing by the complex will also be resurrected in the future, i. e. become a parish church or a church for visitors.
