LTAntanas Kriščiukaitis buvo vienas iš žymiausių Lietuvos teisininkų, deja šiandien visuomenėje daugiau žinomas kaip rašytojas, pasirašinėjęs Aišbės (A iš B) seudonimu. Antanas Kriščiukaitis - pirmasis Vyriausiojo tribunolo pirmininkas bei teisėjas, prisidėjęs prie teismų sistemos reglamentavimo, jos ir kitų teisinių institucijų kūrimo, darbo organizavimo sunkiomis aplinkybėmis. Straipsnyje tiriama pirmojo Vyriausiojo tribunolo pirmininko Antano Kriščiukaičio veikla įkuriant ir vadovaujant Vyriausiajam tribunolui 1918 - 1933 m. Atskleidžiamos Vyriausiojo tribunolo įkūrimo aplinkybės, Vyriausiojo tribunolo pirmininko A. Kriščiukaičio nuopelnai įkuriant Vyriausiąjį tribunolą. Vyriausiojo tribunolo pirmininko darbo rezultatai lyginami su visos teismų sistemos darbo rezultatais. Analizuojami teismų veiklos trūkumai ir A. Kriščiukaičio nuopelnai tobulinant teismų darbą. Nepaisant įvairių sunkumų, nuolat augančio darbo krūvio, pirmininko A. Kriščiukaičio vadovaujamas Vyriausiasis tribunolas vykdė visus jam keliamus uždavinius ir rodė puikius darbo rezultatus. Pirmininkui A. Kriščiukaičiui aktyviai prisidedant prie teismus reglamentuojančių teisės aktų tobulinimo, nuolat rodant asmeninę iniciatyvą, buvo gerinamas teismų darbas ir didinamas visuomenės pasitikėjimas jais. A. ENAntanas Kriščiukaitis was one of the famous Lithuanian lawyers, but today he is known only as a writer under a pseudonym Aišbė. For example, in different Lithuanian encyclopaedias A. Kriščiukaitis is introduced as a writer with legal education, who had occupied different offices in courts and was a professor at a Lithuanian university. These short biographies emphasise his contribution in press, characterize the features of his writings – storeys, feuilletons, articles and translations. However, they do not discuss his merits as a lawyer, which are equally important as his achievements in literature. The discussion of these merits is usually limited to listing the offices he occupied and titles he held. Antanas Kriščiukaitis has graduated from the Law Faculty of Moscow University, however, due to the denationalization policy of the Russian Empire he could not work in Lithuania. He returned to Lithuania only after the reestablishment of statehood of the Republic of Lithuania, when he already had a dozens of years of practice as a judge in the Russian Empire and was fifty six years old. Once he returned from Russia, he was appointed as the first chief justice of the Supreme Court (The Highest Tribunal) of Lithuania. A. Kriščiukaitis did significant work by establishing Lithuanian system of courts and other legal institutions. Kriščiukaitis headed the Supreme Court from the moment the statehood of Lithuania was reestablished till his death. He was a skilled work organizer in view of the difficult circumstances of that time. Despite the difficulties, constantly increasing workload, under the leadership of the chief justice A. Kriščiukaitis the Supreme Court fulfilled all its tasks and demonstrated excellent work results. The chief justice A. Kriščiukaitis took an active part in improving the laws regulating the system of courts and personally initiated the general improvement of the courts’ work. Due to his efforts public confidence in the courts improved. Due to his professional and public activity, honesty and competence A. Kriščiukaitis earned the authority of a „Supreme Justice“ and was considered an example for all justice administrators. Apart from his immediate duties in the Supreme Court, A. Kriščiukaitis also was a professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Lithuania and read lectures on criminal procedure. Furthermore, he held an office in the State council, which drafted laws. Also, he was one of the founders and a long-term chairman of the Lawyers’ association. A. Kriščiukaitis edited a lawyers’ magazine “Teisė“ (“Law”) and a number of other important publications, as he was known as an adept of general and legal Lithuanian language. [From the publication]
