LTTai pirmasis išsamus darbas, kuriame XX a. Lietuvos kariuomenės istoriją mėginama papasakoti pristatant pagrindinius kario atributus - uniformą ir lengvąją ginkluotę. Leidinys susideda iš keturių dalių. Pradedama nuo Pirmojo pasaulinio karo, kada kilo pirmosios mintys kurti Lietuvos kariuomenę. Antroji dalis apima laikotarpį nuo 1920 metų iki sovietinės okupacijos pabaigos 1940 metais. Trečiojoje dalyje išdėstyti Antrojo pasaulinio karo įvykiai. Ketvirtoji dalis prasideda nuo 1953 metų, rezistencijos kovų pabaigos, ir baigiama jau peržengus XX amžiaus slenkstį, brėžiant ribą ties 2004 metų kovo 29 diena, kai Lietuva tapo visateise Šiaurės Atlanto Sutarties Organizacijos nare ir Lietuvos kariuomenės istorijoje buvo atverstas naujas puslapis. Knygoje panaudota muziejuose, saugyklose, privačiose kolekcijose, žinybinių institucijų rinkiniuose esanti medžiaga. ENThis monograph is devoted to the history of Lithuanian military uniforms and small arms in the 20th c. Through illustrations and texts we have tried to show basic attributes of everyday military life such as uniforms and small firearms without which soldiers cannot be imagined. In this book we were also interested in the ways in which they were worn. Many of the exhibits in this book are exposed for the Lithuanian reader for the first time ever. We believe that the photographs presented here, images of original objects that have survived for decades, and the drafts and drawings of uniforms and weapons will help reveal the history of a hundred years of the Lithuanian Army. This book is divided into four major parts that, beginning with World War I, chronologically relate to the historical development of the uniforms worn by Lithuanian soldiers. The first and second parts of this monograph are devoted to the times of the First Lithuanian Republic. During the period of 1918-1940 the Lithuanian Army changed and improved the uniforms of its soldiers seven times. In the first part, we briefly survey the ideas that arose during World War I in the process of creating the Lithuanian Army, relate to how the volunteers of 1918 looked, what the first designs for military uniforms were like, and discuss the temporary uniform of 1919 and its successor in 1920. In a separate section, we discuss the military dress of the Lithuanian-American brigade that was being created in the United States at the same time.In the second part, we present the reforms of the uniform in 1923, 1927, 1931, 1934, and 1940 and the special features of each of them. The third part of this book stands out for its originality. It discusses the historical period from 1940 to 1953. These were the difficult years during and after World War II, marked by the heroic struggle of Lithuanian partisans against Soviet occupying forces. This part relates to how our military uniform looked as the Lithuanian Army was being liquidated and transformed into the People's Army and the 29th Territorial Rifle Corps of the Soviet Army. We also present the military uniform of the 16th Lithuanian Division, which was formed in the Soviet Army. Separately discussed are the uniforms worn during the German occupation by Lithuanian soldiers in the self-defense and police units and in the Territorial Defense Force led by General Povilas Plechavičius. We also extensively present the attire of postwar Lithuanian partisans. The last part of this book is devoted to the history of the army uniform of the current Lithuanian Republic. It begins in 1990 and ends in 2004, when Lithuania became a full member of the NATO and the European Union, and a new page was turned in the history of the Lithuanian Army. This part describes the uniforms of the volunteers in the army of 1990-1991 and of the regular armed forces in 1992, 1997, and 2002. In addition to uniforms, we also discuss the small arms of each period because the weapon, as well as the uniform, is an inseparable attribute of a soldier's everyday life. […]. [text from author]
