Kovos dėl respublikos: Lietuvos Didžiosios kunigaikštystės saulėlydžio patirtis

LTStudijoje pateikiamas Respublikos sampratos senojoje Lietuvoje tyrimas, remiantis XVIII a. medžiaga, kuri leidžia XVIII a. II pusėje Lenkijos-Lietuvos valstybėje vykusias politinio ir kultūrinio gyvenimo permainas interpretuoti kaip pilietines kovas dėl Respublikos išsaugojimo ir patobulinimo. Svarbi šių kovų priemonė buvo poleminė ir proginė raštija, taip pat politinė publicistika. To meto šalies literatūra ne tik perėmė Apšvietos idėjas, bet ir atsigręžė į Lietuvos bei Lenkijos politinės minties tradiciją, ją aktualizavo bei reinterpretavo. XVIII a. antrosios pusės LDK tekstai grįžta prie XVI a. svarstytų klausimų: tautos ir luomų sampratos, valstiečių ir miestiečių teisių, bajorijos laisvių ir savivalės, Lietuvos valstybės savarankiškumo. XVI-XVII a. kurtą Lietuvos Respublikos doktriną jie papildo naujais aspektais. Greta tradicinės bajorų respublikos ideologijos, Lietuvoje grįstos lietuvių bajorų kilmės iš romėnų mitu, išryškėja ir moderni visų luomų piliečius jungiančios respublikos samprata. Pirmojo Vilniaus universiteto rektoriaus Petro Skargos keltas tėvynės gelbėjimo idėjas aktualizavo ir išplėtojo XVIII a. pab. pamoksluose Mykolas Pranciškus Karpavičius. Baro ir Targovicos konfederacijų tekstus, Ketverių metų seimo ir Tado Kosciuškos sukilimo publicistiką jungia ta pati laisvos respublikos išsaugojimo problematika bei žlungančios tėvynės gelbėjimo retorika. ENThe study presents an analysis of the concept of republic in the old Lithuania, referring to the 18th century materials, which allows for interpretation of political and cultural life changes, which occurred in the Polish – Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 2nd half of the 18th century as civil fight for preservation and improvement of the Republic. An important tool of the fight was the polemic, occasional and political publicist writing. The literature of the period not only took over the Enlightenment ideas, but also turned to Lithuanian and Polish political tradition, made it relevant and interpreted it. The texts of the Grand Duchy of the 2nd half of the 18th century return to the issues, discussed in the 16th century: concept and layers of the nation, rights of peasants and townspeople, freedom and lawlessness of nobles and self-sufficiency of the state of Lithuania. The doctrine of the Republic of Lithuania, developed in 16th – 17th centuries was supplemented by new aspects. Apart from the traditional ideology of nobles’ republic, based by myths of origin of Lithuanian nobles from Romans, there also emerges a modern concept of the republic, connecting citizens of all castes. The motherland protection ideas, raised by the first Rector of Vilnius University Petras Skarga were made relevant and developed at the end of the 18th century by Mykolas Pranciškus Karpavičius in his sermons. The texts of Bar and Targowica confederations and publications of the Four-year sejm and Tadeusz Kosciuszko’s uprising are connected by the same issues of preservation of a free republic and the rhetoric of rescuing the motherland. Although the texts under study are different by the concepts of freedom and different views of the republic, they also contain a prominent projection of a self-sufficient Lithuanian nation and the Republic of Lithuania till the very twilight of the Grand Duchy.
