ENHomiletics, as the reflection in the theological service of the Word, has the task to help the Church in fulfilling its fundamental function. Homiletics is a pastoral discipline, showing the function of the serving Church. Its special task is - to read the signs of the times, preaching Gods word. We often hear about the crisis of preaching and listening to Gods word in our modern world. Such traditional forms of preaching as sermon, homily, cathechesis are described as undergoing crisis, paying attention to the fact that modern man in a quickly changing world, does not want to stay passive, reticent listener, standing between the church columns in front of the pulpit. The relevance of the scientific topic. Catholic Church always estimated a sermon as one of the most important means of evangelization and spreading faith. Following the Church teaching, in our modern society it is worth stressing the importance of an authentic sermon and liturgical homily. A homily (homilein) is a friendly conversation, sometimes called mistagogic conversation, leading the believers into the Christian mysteries, hiding under the liturgical signs. God's words in the liturgy, where they play a very important role, especially in the Eucharist, enable the Christians to be united to the Resurrected Christ, residing among the participants of the Eucharist. A sermon has to be deeply meditated. It is like climbing the mountain, and preaching of the Word is like a descent from the mountain and offering the fruit of the contemplation to the listeners. A preacher, following this mission is like an angel to the listeners.Preaching of Gods word is a living Holy Scripture. Firstly, it has to intrigue a preacher himself, only then it is possible to preach it as God's word. It is not enough to quote the Bible. Only preaching can touch people's hearts. A very important moment is the preparation for the homily, choosing the suitable materials for it, understanding the texts. It is worth studying good commentaries of the Bible in order to conceive the best meaning of the Bible for modern people. So in order to assimilate the lessons of rethorics, in preparation for the sermons, it is not enough to present only one's own ideas or experiences together with psychological, social or philanthropic interpretations. The monograph will help the preachers to understand that rethorics needs to be very familiar and fostered. The word of God has to be outlived, meditated and, with Gods help, presented to the listener. The monograph consists of two parts. The first part „Potestas Docendi" has got four chapters. In the First chapter the author describes the Church's obligation to preach Gods word, Jesus Christ as the prototype of a preacher, St. Paul, the Apostle as the most zealous preacher, shows the obligation of the Church to preach Gods word through ages. The Second chapter deals with the methodology of arranging sermons, describing the sources of the materials for the sermons, the form and contents of the sermon, following the basic requirements of the rethorics. The ways of finding, saving and grouping the materials, the methods of preparing and presenting a sermon in a particular style. The Third chapter analyses the importance of voice training and pronunciation of presenting the content of sermons. The Fourth chapter describes the types of sermons. There are different types: cathechetical, liturgical, apologethical, for parish people, on special occasions, mariological, homilies, Advent and Lent retreat. The second part „Sermons and their sketches" consists of three chapters. The First chapter gives liturgical sermons. The Second chapter shows sermons on special occasions The Third chapter presents funeral sermons Preparation of the sermons and rethorics is a very responsible consistent work, which has to be done under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Preaching of God's word is impossible without the assistance of the Holy Spirit. It is a great stimulus for each preacher, not allowing to rely only on one's own talents and prudence. The Holy Spirit creates miracles either in a preacher or in a listener, so a sermon is a fruit of deep cooperation with the Holy Spirit. The object of the research - preparation of sermons and rethorics The aim of the monograph - following scientific principles of the rethorics, to give systematic knowledge of preparing sermons, combining theory and practice. These are the main tasks of the research: to reveal the Church obligation to preach Gods word; to present methodology of preparing sermons; to describe the rethorical basics of the sermons; to analize the types of the sermons; to give the author's examples of the liturgical, occasional, funeral sermons and their outlines. Scientific qualitative methods were used: Scientific, philosophical, psychological analysis of Church documents; Rethorical paradigms in preparation of the sermons; Logical analysis in preaching God's word.
