ENThis book is perhaps the first serious attempt to review the life and oeuvre of Algimantas and Vytautas Nasvyčiai, two of the most outstanding creators of modern architecture in Lithuania. The life and art of the Nasvyčiai spanned the last decade of independent Lithuania, the years of World War II, the period of the first occupations of the Soviet and Nazi forces and the long decades of postwar Soviet occupation that lasted until the renewal of Lithuanian statehood and the subsequent first decades of the independent Lithuania. This new period in our nation's history was very turbulent, complicated and difficult. At the beginning of the book the Nasvyčiai family is comprehensively described, as it was here that the personalities of the architects were formed. [...] The Nasvyčiai became the leaders of this "new wave" by starting to create using an innovative creative method. Through their single minded searches for new means of artistic expression they created a new form for Lithuania's architecture. The new stylistic and architectural vision of the "Neringa" interior influenced Soviet Union architecture and prompted changes within it. This modern architecture demonstrated the advantages of a new creative method. For a few decades the architects of Lithuania became assured of prime positions in the architecture of Soviet Union (it is a shame that because of the "Iron Curtain" we could not fully participate in the process of the development of world architecture). The miscellaneous creative activity of A. and V. Nasvyčiai architects is closely linked to the development of Lithuania's modern architecture. Abstract
