Methodological quality analysis of bachelor final works

LTTyrinėjimas yra viena iš ekonominio augimo, konkurencingumo ir įsidarbinimo jėgų. Tyrimų politika skatina visuomenės, ekonomikos, integracijos į ES raidą. Šiaulių universiteto Socialinių mokslų fakultetas siekia pagerinti studentų baigiamųjų darbų metodologinę kokybę. Norint įvertinti šias pastangas, inicijuotas empirinis tyrimas. Taikant turinio analizę, nagrinėta 100 baigiamųjų darbų, atliktų verslo vadybos studentų, metodologinė kokybė. Tyrimo tikslais buvo sukurta metodologinės kokybės savybių matrica, išskirtos 136 savybės ir pagal jas išanalizuoti visi darbai. Tyrimas atskleidė kai kurias studentų baigiamųjų darbų charakteristikas. Kalbant apie studentų darbų temų aktualumo ir svarbos išryškinimą, tai buvo atskleista tik apie pusėje nagrinėtų darbų. Tik 9 proc. studentų tinkamai suformulavo tyrimo problemą. Trečdalyje nagrinėtų darbų nebuvo aiškiai apibrėžta atlikto tyrimo sfera ir tikslas. Paprastai yra reikalaujama, kad tyrimo tikslai derėtų su išvadomis -daugumoje studentų darbų pastebėti tikslų ir išvadų neatitikimai. Pristatant tiriamąjį darbą, turi būti pateikiamas aiškus tyrimo imties, instrumentų ir metodo aprašymas. Daugumoje studentų darbų šie reikalavimai nebuvo tinkamai išpildyti. Kai kurie darbai net nebuvo tiriamojo pobūdžio. Galiausiai nagrinėtas rezultatų pateikimas studentų darbuose. Nustatyta, kad daugumoje darbų trūksta interpretavimo, tekste ir lentelėse informacija buvo kartojama, naudota per daug iliustracinės medžiagos. Šis tyrimas leidžia susidaryti momentinį studentų baigiamųjų darbų kokybės paveikslą. ENResearching is among the essential powers of economic growth, competitive abilities and employment. The researching policies encourage development of the society, economy and integration into the EU. The Faculty of Social Sciences of Šiauliai University strives for improvement of the methodological quality of students’ final theses. In order to evaluate the said attempts, an empirical study was initiated. By applying the method of content analysis methodological quality of 100 final theses, written by business management students was examined. The matrix of methodological quality traits was developed, 136 traits were distinguished and all the theses were analyzed according to the said traits. The study revealed certain characteristics of the theses. In terms of highlighting of the relevance and importance of the thesis subjects, that was revealed only in about half of the examined works. Only about 9 per cent of the students managed to properly formulate the subject of the study. One third of the examined works failed to clearly define the area and the aim of the performed study. It is usually required that the aims of the study are in tune with the conclusions – variances between the aims and conclusions were noted in most theses. When presenting a study, a clear description of the sample, instruments and the method must be provided. In most of the thesis the requirements were not properly observed. Some of the theses even lacked the researching character. Finally, the presentation of the results was examined. It was established that most works lacked interpretation, there was overlapping of information, provided in the text and in the tables, too much illustrative materials were used. The study allowed for getting an instantaneous picture of the theses’ quality. Taking into consideration the development of the studies’ programmes, it is recommended to continue performing similar examinations.
