Kuršiai vakarinių baltų Geležies amžiaus kultūroje ir visuomenėje : disertacija

LTHabilitaciniame darbe peržvelgta kuršių istorija, visuomenė ir kultūros raida nuo genties ištakų iki sunykimo. Tyrinėjimai apima laikotarpį nuo senojo geležies amžiaus iki naujųjų laikų. Darbo pagrindą sudaro IX – XIII a. laikotarpį apimantys tyrinėjimai. Tai pirmas tokio pobūdžio darbas, skirtas senųjų kuršių kultūrai ir pirmas stambesnis atskiros baltų genties tyrinėjimas Lietuvoje. Tiesa, autorius pripažįsta, jog pateikiamoje kuršių genties proistorijoje ir istorijoje dar lieka nemažai „baltų dėmių“, ne visos senųjų kuršių gyvenimo pusės yra pakankamai aiškiai ir giliai nušviestos. Pagrindine kliūtimi yra autentiškos tyrimų medžiagos stoka. Darbe nevengta naujų hipotezių ir prielaidų, kurios gali būti diskutuojamos, o ateityje ir keičiamos.

ENThe habilitation thesis overviews development of the Curonian history, society and culture from the origins till extinction of the tribe. The research encompasses the period from the Late Iron Age till the Modern Era. The basis of the work is composed of research of the 9-13th century period. This is the first study of its kind on culture of the Old Curonians and the first big research of a separate Baltic tribe in Lithuania. On the other hand, the author acknowledges that the presented prehistory and history of the Curonian tribe still contains lacunas because not all sides of the Curonian life are comprehensively and thoroughly explained. The main obstacle is the lack of authentic research materials. The study contains new hypotheses and assumptions that may be disputable and changed in future.
