ENThe Kazys Varnelis House-Museum is considered a gem of Vilnius. The institution is “hidden” within two medieval buildings in the city’s Old Town; it holds a rich collection of European and Eastern art from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries, a 10,000 volume library, and optical compositions painted by the museum’s founder (Fig. 10.1). Almost all of these objects were brought from the United States, where Kazys Varnelis (1917–2010) (Fig. 10.2) spent fifty years of his life.
