ENThe aspiration of social work to become a profession that is well established and acknowledged by society requires professionals equipped with leadership, perseverance, strong motivation, courage to initiate change, and the willingness to abandon outdated and ineffective methodologies. To achieve this goal the field of social work has to attract and retain new practitioners in the social work domain, who will bring their unique vision, expertise, and enthusiasm. Thus, there is an imperative for a deeper understanding of the factors that contribute to a novice social worker’s resilience amidst adversity, facilitate their personal and professional growth and affect their commitment to the field. This paper aims to identify the factors that affect the resilience of novice social workers. The study revealed that the resilience of the novice social worker is not only tested by personal or organisational factors but also by the wider social, political and cultural context, linked to the image of the profession and the specificities of the legal framework. Social work in Lithuania is heavily influenced by societal attitudes and stereotypes, which typically underestimate the contributions of social workers while simultaneously imposing high expectations and demands on them to address societal issues. Additionally, social work in Lithuania faces significant obstacles, including a lack of collaboration with other organisations and a heavy reliance on state funding. The most pressing challenges for organisations seeking to retain social work professionals include disagreements in values, height ened emotional strain, lack of respect within relationships with managers and teams, instances of bullying, unsatisfactory or hazardous working conditions, limited opportunities for professional development and career advancement, and inadequate provisions for financial well-being.The in teraction of these factors creates a unique context in which the resilience of novice social workers is tested.
