ENIn 2012, 12 trenches (a total of 1000 m2) were excavated in Zubriai village (SW Lithuania). Trenches 42–44 contained an iron age cultural layer up to 60 cm thick with an abundance of hand built pottery with rough (predominantly)and smooth surfaces. Trenches 46–46 contained a stonelined channel for rainwater drainage that dates to the 17th–19th centuries (preserved) and an iron age cultural layer up to 60 cm thick with pits and postholes in the sterile soil. The territory occupied by the unenclosed settlement was determined on the basis of trenches 47–54. In addition, abundant potsherds and fragments of clay daub (about 5400 pieces weighing about 47 kg) were collected in the iron age settlement. The settlement dates to the 2nd–3rd and 11th centuries according to the 14C dating. 51 stone age finds were also discovered: the majority flakes and blades, 3 fragments of ground axes, 2 scrapers, and 1 burin dating to the final palaeolithic first half of the mesolithic and the late neolithic. During 2011–2012, a total of 53 trenches (a total of 5349 m2) were excavated at the construction site of the Alytus-Simnas-Kalvarija (131) road and beyond its boundaries and 10495 finds were discovered.
