Język gawędy ludowej "Wielki Czwartek" Władysława Syrokomli na tle polszczyzny ogólnej i północnokresowej XIX wieku

ENThe article discusses the language of the works by Władysław Syrokomla (Ludwik Kondratowicz, 1823–1862) in the context of stardard Polish language in general, and in particular – of the Northern Borderlands dialects spoken in the first half of the 19th century. Therefore, the wiriter’s language is compared with the language of other contemporary writers and shown against the background of his times and also against the background of the dialect used in the region he was bound to. The material for analysis has been taken from a folk tale titled "Wielki Czwartek. Obraz wioskowy" published in Vilnius in 1856. The examination covers linguistic forms that differ from the standard Polish of the day, excerpted from the first printing published by Maurycy Orgelbrand in Vilnius and compared with the descriptions of the 19th century standard and regional Polish language. Linguistic phenomena under scrutiny have been divided into two main groups representing the standard 19th century Polish and the Northern Borderland dialect, comparing the material with the basis determined from the literature on the subject. The number of particular phenomena and their frequency in the analysed text were investigated to determine the share of regional features.
