ENThe restoration of Lithuania‘s independence attracted all patriots and creators and highlighted the leaders in their fields. Karolis Dineika (1898-1980) was the founder of the physical education system of Lithuania. He gave Lithuania the understanding and importance of a healthy body and a healthy nation. This is confirmed by this saying of his: „Freedom can be taken away from us, but we will still regain it. But if our health is taken away from us, Lithuania will perish“. This is the foundation that Dineika laid during the inter-war period in Lithuania. Wherever there was sport, there was K. Dineika. He was highly educated, had a solid wealth of knowledge, was able to express himself well and did not shy away from criticism. He was above some charismatic personalities. Dineika could bring thousands of people to sporting competitions. Druskininkai became a new place on life for Dineika, and the Wellness Park became his oasis of activity. In the early 1970s, he gained great authority, because health was important to everyone. Druskininkai became a centre of attraction because of Dineika‘s work. He was known as the ‚Miracle Worker from Druskininkai‘. Dineika‘s life and work are perfect examples of healthy living, morality and inner culture that should be followed by people.
