ENFrom the 20th century new proper names with the formant -ij- began to spread in Lithuania. Their appearance was influenced by borrowed names with -ij-: Marija, Viktorija. These were quite common and diverse, with the result that -ij- was reinterpreted as an independent suffix and had an impact on the formation of new long suffixes. The new formants obtained in such a way exemplify how borrowed names impact the Lithuanian stock of national names and become a part of it. Keywords: Lithuanian names, borrowed names, suffixal derivatives, suffix -ij-, name trends. [From the publication]
