ENThe ensemble of Joniškėlis estate is one of the biggest remaining whole estates. There are 20 buildings in it now. They are located in a large park of 24 ha. The family of noblemen Karpis ruled this impressive estate for 200 years. It had some tens of estates in Samogitia, Highlands of Lithuania and on the other side of the Nemunas River. The ensemble of Joniškėlis estate consists of classicistic mansion and later, in the middle and in the end of the 19th century built living and farm buildings. The park ofthe estate consists of three parts. The central part, formed in the end of the 18th century includes the entrance road, parterre in front ofthe mansion and a bigger yard in the lower terrain to the southeast of the mansion. It stretches along the Mažupė small river and reaches the natural forest. The other two parts ofthe park were formed in 1870—80s. The western part of the landscape park of the English type is located between two 400 metre long alleys of lime trees and chestnuts. Now it almost has lost its character. A quadrangular pond was dug in the English park. The lime tree alley ends at the greenhouse in a semicircular place of land. The eastern part on the right bank of the Mažupė River has features of a regular French park. From the points of view of artistic value and typology of the buildings the architectural heritage of the Karpis family in Joniškėlis deserves the attention of monument protectors.
