Summary / Abstract:

[...]. [Iš teksto, p. 356-357]

ENIn 2019–2020, 5589 m2 were surveyed and 694 m2 excavated on the plot at Sodų St. 6. Based on the archaeological investigation data, the plot has been used since the late 16th century. A fairly rich cultural layer was discovered closer to Sodų Street (up to 24 m from the street in the direction of the courtyard). It is possible to distinguish 3 horizons: an upper, grey soil layer dating to the mid-19th century, a layer of sand mixed with grey soil that contains sparse 16th–17th-century finds and was formed through earthwork-related disturbances, and a bottom, light grey sandy soil layer that was formed in the late 16th–17th (18th) centuries. Further towards the courtyard, the upper and bottom layers combine into one poor cultural layer horizon that thins out towards to the S and contains sparse 16th–19th-century finds, indicating that a garden or orchard existed at this location. The investigation also revealed a hitherto unknown masonry structure, the remains of a 17th–18th-century basement as well as part of a late 16th–17th-century drying oven, information which supplemented the cartographic and historical knowledge hitherto possessed about present-day Sodų Street.
