ENThe paper analyzes the characteristics of developing the communicative competence of primary school children: it validates the relevance of developing the communicative competence, presents the key communicative skills and reveals the nature of the development of these skills. The paper presents the results of the research which surveyed 318 primary school teachers and revealed the situation of developing the communicative competence in Lithuania. The article also emphasizes the teachers’ opinion on the factors influencing the learners’ communicative competence, the applied measures and the problems that arise in the process.
