Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article aims to reveal the significance of formation of the contemporary national identity of the prospective teachers in Lithuania in specific interactions of personal life experiences and social and cultural contexts. The national identity is defined as a constantly changing and regularly revised multi-layer construct. One of important factors in the change of the national identity is considered to be a socio-cultural context of higher school which creates prerequisites for the reflection of the experience accumulated in the family, comprehensive school, and university, and for its transformation and synthesis. A qualitative empiric survey was conducted. The applied research method was a non-structured biographical interview. The interpretation of the obtained outcomes disclosed the trends of the change in the national identity of Lithuanian prospective teachers preconditioned by the holistic self-training of an individual. Keywords: The context of national identity building, social and cultural environment, self-building, trends of change. [From the publication]
