ENBased on primary sources, both published and in manuscript form (contracts, press advertisements, address books of various cities and catalogues of industrial exhibitions), samples of stove tiles of Klaipėda provenance stored in the Museum of the History of Lithuania Minor, and in museums in Mažeikiai and other cities and towns in west Lithuania, and on data from archaeological research, the article provides a description of stove tile makers identified who were based in Klaipėda and its region in the late 19th and early 20th century. Furthermore, it identifies European producers that were a source of imports to the region. With reference to the surviving stove tiles bearing the imprint of the manufacturer, it is suggested that a major source for imports in the second half of the 19th century was the factory of Baron Eduard von Schroeder in Nodaggen close to Liepaja. This is the only importer known so far from the then Russian Empire. Other imported products pertain to German lands. Extant stove tiles with imprints and notices in the press have shown that imports in the second half of the 19th century came from Stettin (now Polish Szczecin) and Konigsberg and its region, and in the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century from Velten and Vietz (Polish Witnica), and products from Meissen were also in great demand. There are indications that the Teplitz- Schdnau manufacturers made an attempt to enter the Klaipėda market in the period between the two world wars.A number of Lithuanian manufacturers offered their products to the inhabitants of Klaipėda in the 1930s, but the plentiful supply of German products seems to have hindered their efforts to penetrate the local market. The research revealed that the manufacturers in Klaipėda and the Klaipėda region were in constant competition with imported products; it was therefore very hard for them to survive in the market. The leading manufacturers in Klaipėda identified in the period from the second half of the 19th century to the early 20th century included the Ferdinand Kreutz, Kampf, Maus, Luschnath and Holzhauer families. The stove tile factory of Albert Baumgardt in Priekulė achieved great fame in the interwar period. This research represents the first attempt to explore the situation of stove tile manufacturing in Klaipėda and the Klaipėda region in the 19th and early 20th century; it is therefore believed that the lists of both local manufacturers and importers will be supplemented once a greater volume and variety of data is found.
