Summary / Abstract:

ENThe system of photographic education during the Second Polish Republic was above all based upon secondary education and concentrated on professional questions. A different aim lay behind activities in the field of photography organised in higher education institutions, where these activities had a more general purpose, that of supplementing the education of students concentrating on other fields. Three basic institutions can be identified as operating within the above criteria, in which photography had the status of an artistic discipline - the Institute of Photography of the Polytechnic of Lwów, the Photographic Workshop (Pracownia Fotografii) operating alongside the Department of Classical Archeology (Katedra Acheologii Klasycznej) at the Jan Kazimierz University in Lwów, and the Artistic Photography Workshop (Zakład Fotografii Artystycznej) at the Stefan Batory University in Wilno.
