ENThe diaries, letters, and poems of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz are valuable documents bringing a rich portrayal of Czesław Miłosz. The author of Dionizje helped the young poet to form a unique voice and develop writing skills. Iwaszkiewicz admitted Miłosz to his symbolic poetic school and noticed immediately a big progress of his pupil. Yet, the young man soon became a literary partner and rival in a short time. The relationship between both poets resembles the relationship between Daedalus and Icarus, a master and a student, an experienced person and a visionary. This relationship went through many stages: the time of sharing of poetic experience, physical fascination, friendship, literary rivalry, emigration separation, and the disagreement resulting from political diff erences. Keywords: Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, Czesław Miłosz, image of the poet, the school of Iwaszkiewicz, emigration. [From the publication]
