ENThe author of the article analysed two literary topoi (locus amoenus, locus horridus) that can be found in the works by Czesław Miłosz (1911–2004), Polish poet and Nobel Prize winner, and his cousin Oskar Miłosz (1877–1939), a Lithuanian poet who wrote in French. The scientist concludes: “What connects these two writers are, among others, their religious and philosophical fascinations and the memories of Lithuania – the lost place of birth and “childhood home country”, Czesław Miłosz noticed the presence of the noblemen’s tradition, with which he had also struggled in his poetry, in the works of the author of Les Arcanes. The sources of this tradition may be found in the Lithuanian landscapes, in the history of Lithuanian land, and, last but not least, in the upbringing style”. The author also states: “Both poets have never abandoned thinking about Lithuania. They could not fi nd themselves in its contemporary landscape, either, as the memories of the past, marked with a sense of loneliness, determined their life choices”.
