LTPublikuojami trys XVI–XVIII a. Vilniaus valdžios ir jo gyventojų sąrašai, svarbūs Vilniaus miesto istorijai ir gyventojų sociotopografijai tirti. Du šaltiniai, t. y. 1677 m. Vilniaus magdeburgijos jurisdikoje gyvenusių vilniečių pagalvės mokesčių mokėtojų sąrašas ir 1702 m. Vilniaus magdeburgijos gyventojų padūmės mokesčio mokėtojų knyga, atspindi miesto gyventojų sudėtį – juose nurodyti posesijų savininkai ir nuomininkai, jų verslai, amatai ir užsiėmimai. Trečias šaltinis – Vilniaus miesto 1516–1770 m. metinių burmistrų ir tarėjų sąrašas, kuriame 1516–1716 m. dažniausiai buvo įrašomi 2 burmistrai ir 4 tarėjai, o nuo XVIII a. antrojo dešimtmečio nurodoma ir daugiau renkamų pareigūnų – iždo ekonomai, pirklių bendrijos pirmininkai, įvairūs provizoriai. ENVilnius was the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and its political, cultural, economic, and religious centre. As a multiethnic and multicultural city and a place of interaction of Western and Eastern European civilizations, it was important both to Lithuania and the whole eastern region of Europe. For centuries, different nations and representatives of different religions co-existed in Vilnius, which was an arena of important cultural, scientific, and political processes. It is thus not surprising that numerous historians undertook research into the history of Vilnius. With the celebrations of the 700th anniversary (1323-2023) of the founding of the city approaching, the interest in its past has grown and a group of historians are preparing a present to the capital in the form of a synthesis of the history of Vilnius. In order to contribute to successful fulfilment of this important objective, the scholars of the Lithuanian Institute of History are conducting the project ‘An Outline of Sociotopography of Vilnius from the Thirteenth to the Eighteenth Century’ (project leader Dr Eimantas Meilus; project conducted by Dr Oksana Valionienė, Dr Mindaugas Klovas, Dr Antoni Urmański). Academic publications of three sixteenth-to-eighteenth-century lists of the city’s authorities and residents were foreseen within the framework of this project: (1) the 1677 list of poll tax payers among the residents of the jurysdyka of Magdeburgian Vilnius (Dr Eimantas Meilus), (2) the 1702 book of chimney tax payers in Magdeburgian Vilnius (Dr Mindaugas Klovas), and (3) an annual list of burgomasters and assessors of the city of Vilnius from 1516 to 1770 (Dr Antoni Urmański).The first two sources are important to the research into the sociotopography of Vilnius because their exhaustive nature distinguishes them among other documents of the same type. They list the tax payers of Magdeburgian Vilnius: the owners and tenants of possessions, the members of their families, positions occupied by the residents, their crafts, trades, and other relevant information. The published lists of the payers of poll and chimney taxes will enable discussions regarding the size of the population of Vilnius, establishing the distribution of crafts in the city, etc. The annual list of burgomasters, assessors, and some other officials of Vilnius, which seems to be the only source of this type and enables determining the composition of the council of the capital and expanding the biographies of the influential burghers, stands out among others because of its importance. We hope that these three lists of sixteenth-to-eighteenth-century officials and residents of Vilnius will continue the publication of the sources pertaining to the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and stimulate new academic discussions and popularisation studies.
