Tapant ir asmenybės, ir kūrybinį portretą prasminga įžvelgti jų sąsajas. Tekste pasitelkiamos paties kompozitoriaus ir kolegų mintys. ENVidmantas Bartulis’ creative path, which lasted for about 55 years, was particularly productive and diverse. Today, it can already be appreciated as a whole. His expressivity was limited for one third of his life, and liberated for the other two thirds. A close connection between Vidmantas Bartulis’ personality traits and his creativity was apparent. Poetics, authenticity, theatricality, directing strategy, non-standard approach, and many other elements are seen as both character traits and creative traits. It is possible to compare the composer’s stylistic minimalism, which is pertinent to many works, with his very clear self-limitation and non-talkativeness. The creator was well versed in the architectonics of the work, and by experimenting with the language of music, he subtly nuanced it, thus creating diversity and providing ambiguity. Through non-traditional works, the composer developed his listeners’ ability to look upon ordinary phenomena from alternative perspectives. His experience as a composer for theatre helped with appearing ambiguous and at the same time provided a degree of democracy. In this way, he avoided patheticism in the high genres of spiritual music as well, and in other music he easily combined the expressivity typical of a “sad poet” with a mischievous smile. The text draws on the thoughts of the composer himself and his colleagues. [From the publication]
